Bratwurst tavern Zum Gulden Stern

Zum Gulden Stern, the world’s oldest Bratwurst tavern, is located just 200 m from the Weißer Turm (White Tower). Many other tourist attractions – including the Ehekarussell (Marriage Merry-Go-Round Fountain), Germanisches Nationalmuseum, or the Straße der Menschenrechte (Way of Human Rights) – can also be found close by. No trip to Nuremberg is complete without a visit.

In 1640, Zum Gulden Stern was elevated to the prestigious category of “dining houses” and granted the rare privilege of slaughtering pigs on the premises. Ever since, guests from around the world have enjoyed food prepared over its original hearth, which survives to this day.

Our traditional Bratwurst tavern, Zum Gulden Stern, is located at Zirkelschmiedsgasse 26 in Nuremberg, on a site formerly known as “auf dem hohen Pflaster.” In 1980, Martin Hilleprandt acquires the property with a demolition permit already in place. Nuremberg’s oldest tavern – and one of its most beautiful – was saved and restored with help from Altstadtfreunde Nürnberg, a local historic preservation association. The restoration brought a piece of medieval Nuremberg into the modern era.

In keeping with tradition, the Nuremberg Rostbratwursts are freshly grilled by hand over a beechwood fire. Served with freshly prepared potato salad made with potatoes grown in the nearby Knoblauchsland region, and delicious barrel sauerkraut from the Wehr family, this Nuremberg specialty is a real delight.
