BRATWURST MUSEUM

This museum is all about sausages

In the Nuremberg Bratwurst Museum, you will get lots of information about the little Nuremberg specialty along with its colorful history and connection with its home town. Even back in the 19th century, travelers headed to Nuremberg to eat Nuremberg Batwursts in one of the famous restaurants.

Today you can experience more than 700 years of sausage history in a 100 square-meter space, find out about the production and recipe and get an insight into the traditional butcher’s trade. The museum has an informative layout with panels, screens and wonderful exhibits.

Visitors can also listen to the contents in English in an audio guide and, with some luck, get a spontaneous free tour from the dedicated staff.

The Bratwurst Museum shows people the old artisanal tradition behind one of the most famous culinary specialties of our city.

A BRATWURST WALKING TOUR

A bratwurst walking tour from “Geschichte für Alle”

The long history of a short sausage.

What’s small, delicious, and a Nuremberg tradition? The rostbratwurst! It’s over 700 years old – or so legend has it. We look back on the long history of a rather short sausage. Why are bratwursts so small? Why can you only order them in even numbers (6, 8, 10, 12 …) from a bratwurst tavern? And why can you then only get “3 in a roll” if you buy them on the street?

Answers to these questions and the legends that have sprung up around the short sausage can all be found on the “Nuremberg Bratwurst” tour, which is offered in cooperation with the Nuremberg Bratwurst Protection Association. After the one-hour tour, you’ll also have the chance to explore the Bratwurst Museum on Bratwurstgasse on your own.
